Shaw's Birthday Event

Here we have another mega package of birthday content — Q&A, date, party celebration — everything squeezed into one blog post!
Let's start the festivities by celebrating the fact that I finally got a Shaw card above R rarity, lol. I like how the card portrays Shaw in a way that feels very natural to him: he's got a soda can in one hand and wheels under his feet (although this time he's wearing roller skates instead of a skateboard) and the carefree party vibes are very much there! I also love the evolved version. They both look so happy, and the floral sunrise setting captures the feeling of midsummer perfectly.
Jar of Questions
Shaw: I have everything I need, I just want to see more of the silly and goofy side of someone.
Q: Is there any habit you developed because of someone else's influence? ☆☆☆
Shaw: You answer this question first.
Kasa: Why? You're not trying to get some answers from me, are you...?
Shaw: I'm not that good at cheating. As the saying goes, "One who stays near vermilion gets stained red." I'd like to hear first what good habits you've developed from me. ^(`▽´*)
Kasa: Okay, I can answer first. But it's agreed that you can't try to be clever and brush this off.
Shaw: No problem, don't worry.
Kasa: *answer*
Shaw: That's pretty much what I thought too. Looks like I really know you quite well.
Kasa: What about you?
Shaw: Me? The habits I've developed under your influence are too numerous to list in a short time. However, there was one that left a deep impression.
Kasa: What~
Shaw: I'm looking at my phone more often now. I'm either replying to your message or sending you something I find interesting. You know, I wouldn't have done this before. Tsk, influence is scary.
Q: When do you most want the other person to hug you? ☆
Shaw: ...How can there still be such a question? It's not that I'm embarrassed to answer, it's just that for these kinds of questions, I only have one answer: Now.
Q: Are you able to detect changes in the other person's emotions immediately? ☆
Shaw: Sure, it's not difficult at all. After all, you rarely hide your emotions from me. Even if you don't want me to know, it's no use. I have sharp eyes, so you and your thoughts can't escape me.
Kasa: Pfft, is this the power of the Monkey King?
Shaw: That's right, so just be yourself, whether you want to be outgoing or reserved is up to you. I'll see. Then, we can treat the symptoms accordingly.
Q: What's the thing you most want to do when you're with the other person? ☆☆
Shaw: Do I even need to answer this question? Of course, it's to make you happy ^(`▽´*).
Kasa: ....Don't think I can't tell that's an abbreviated line; the original should have been— Of course, it's to make me happy by teasing you ^(`▽´*)
Shaw: Interesting, Kasa really knows me.
Kasa: So this answer doesn't count. You have to say it again as punishment!
Shaw: No, this is the most honest answer. If you don't believe it, you can only prove it with your actions.
Kasa: &*.....!

Q: Do you ever find yourself in a dilemma? ☆
Shaw: What's there to be conflicted about? If you're unhappy about something, why not just solve it yourself? As for whether this will cause others any trouble, that's none of my business.
Q: When was the last time you dreamed about the person opposite you? ☆☆
Shaw: This morning, while I was taking a nap...
Kasa: Wow, so recently?
Shaw: Yes, the first thing I saw when I woke up this morning was that you had your back to me. I wanted to hold you, but where were you going?
Kasa: You ask me? Could it be that I've broken free again? Hmm... it seems quite hot this morning too...
Shaw: Why are you nervous? I haven't finished speaking yet! ^(`▽´*) As a result, I easily pulled you into my arms, and then I fell back to sleep. I don't know if that's why, but I seem to dream about you every time you are close to me. However, the dream wasn't anything special; it was just like when we woke up normally and ordered takeout for dinner. The sun is shining brightly, and you're smiling happily.
Kasa: Hehe, then I'll snuggle into your arms more often from now on. That way you can dream about me every day, and we can spend twice as much time together, isn't that great!
Shaw: ...? You're really greedy; you even have designs on me in your dreams. That's fine, I guess. I'll try it again tonight.
Q: What kind of things you want to do next in your life? ☆☆☆
Shaw: To be honest, I don't have any specific plans. For me, anything is fine as long as life isn't boring.
Kasa: Anything? You're being too absolute!
Shaw: Whether things go smoothly or are bumpy, it's all just a state of flux. The choice you make right now is the more important one. And I'm the kind of person who's least afraid of making choices. I'll do whatever I want.
Kasa: As expected, Shaw is indeed Shaw~ Every sentence has your style.
Shaw: And what about you? How do you want to live your life?
Kasa: Of course, I've been influenced by my surroundings and will learn from you. I always feel that facing everything with your mindset... The world and one's state of mind will become much more open.

Shaw: Not bad, you're quite on the right track. Then let's keep moving forward. Play with whatever comes your way, don't be shy.
Q: Describe your ideal life in a few words. ☆
Shaw: Freedom and unrestrainedness are the two basic requirements. —Playing the world with someone I like would be the icing on the cake for me.
Q: Do you feel like you're easily "saying one thing but meaning another" in front of me? ☆☆
Shaw: ...What's the question?
Kasa: Hey, don't try to avoid it. If you're playing a game, you have to follow the rules.
Shaw: ...No.
Kasa: No? Such a concise answer. Let me translate it for you. You mean, in front of me... you feel you're not easily saying one thing but meaning another.
Shaw: ...What do you mean? Explain yourself clearly.
Kasa: Hehe, we all know what that means. So let's move on to the next question~
Q: When do you feel most inseparable from your partner? ☆☆
Kasa: I know the answer to that! You mentioned earlier that these kinds of questions only have one answer... That's now, isn't it?
Shaw: Stupid, wrong again.
Kasa: Huh? What is that then?
Shaw: Yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
Kasa: Shaw... I rarely hear you speak such sweet nothings so seriously. I'm a little embarrassed...
Shaw: Yeah? Let me tell you in another way.

Q: What would you do if you encountered a terrible teammate in a matchmaking game? ☆
Shaw: Avoid, blockade, take it all away.
Kasa: What if the other person throws water on you first, calls you incompetent, or tries to cause you trouble?
Shaw: Oh... so you're going to provoke me first, huh? That's easy, just open a room and have a one-on-one match, then beat them up first. Then, out of kindness, I'll do a fortune telling for him, saying that he had been doing a lot of bad things lately and was likely to suffer health problems and financial losses. I wish him well.
Q: Where are you most sensitive to touch? ☆☆
Shaw: ...Where do all these strange questions come from?
Kasa: You can't run away, answer now!
Shaw: ...I have no idea.
Kasa: Hehe, really? Then I know. Do you want me to answer for you?
Shaw: You dare.
Kasa: Well, actually, someone has quite a few sensitive spots. For example, the ears, and then... um—! Shaw, let me go!
Shaw: Although only the two of us know the answer to this question. But you're still completely finished.
Kasa: ....&#....!
Q: Do you have any particular listening habits? ☆
Shaw: Nothing special. Listen to the daily recommendations first. After listening, open your favorite playlist and start random playback. If you hear a song you don't really like, just unsave it from your favorites.
Q: Do you have any new hobbies you'd like to try together? ☆☆
Shaw: There really is.
Kasa: What what?
Shaw: Hiking.
Kasa: Sounds great! But why did you choose hiking?
Shaw: Because its process is long, but not boring, and there are beautiful views everywhere.
Kasa: Now that you've told me, I want to try it now. But a single hike is over ten kilometers round trip, I don't know if I have the stamina to keep up...
Shaw: It was definitely difficult the first few times. But we can go and take a break if needed, and we can even give up halfway. It's just a hobby anyway; there's no need to force it.
Kasa: When will we try it?
Shaw: I've said before that questions like this only have one answer. Let's go, let's try it now.
Q: What kind of world do you want to show the other person? ☆☆
Shaw: Um... If I had to choose one, I'd say let me take you to see a world you've never seen before. It can be fun, or it can be boring.
Kasa: Boring? That doesn't sound like something you would say.
Shaw: So what's wrong? There's a subtle difference in the order of events. Never seen it before. The boring result will follow after the experience. Even if I'm unlucky and encounter boring results every time, it doesn't matter.
Kasa: Why?
Shaw: Because I'll find fun in you へ(`▽´*)
Kasa: ....
Shaw: Hey, hey, I haven't finished yet. To be fair, you can also have some fun with me. As for what kind of "world" we will see after doing this... Let's each rely on our own abilities.

Q: What's bothering you lately? ☆☆
Shaw: Tell me, will you help me solve it?
Kasa: Of course, I'll do my best to help you!
Shaw: Okay, I'll keep it short. Help me with my research assignment. It's only a few tens of thousands of words.
Kasa: ...Any other worries?
Shaw: Yes, I'll keep it short. I've been practicing a new trick lately without success. Go and learn it, and if you succeed, teach me.
Kasa: ...Shaw, your troubles are too much. I take back what I said before!
Shaw: You can take it back, but you'll have to pay a "reversal fee".
Kasa: What?
Shaw: Close your eyes, I'll take it myself.
Q: Would you be willing to change some of your habits for your partner? ☆☆
Shaw: Subject to availability.
Kasa: That means you are willing?
Shaw: Otherwise, haven't I changed enough of my habits already? You know, I used to never wait for anyone, and I was never willing to be the first to back down.
Kasa: Hmm, I suppose so. However, considering that some people are prone to saying one thing and meaning another... I won't "make things difficult" for you on this issue anymore.
Shaw: Am I telling the truth? After saying all that, how can you still pin a "crime" on me?
Kasa: Hehe, how about you say "I really like you" to refute that?
Shaw: Tsk, next question.
Q: If you could have one good quality in the other person, which one would you choose? ☆☆
Kasa: Let me make this clear first: if you utter any keywords like "stupid" or "idiotic," I won't let you off the hook!
Shaw: What kind of advantages are being stupid or foolish?
Kasa: That's what they say, but I know you too well; you always have a way of making black seem white...
Shaw: Okay, I've figured out the answer too.
Kasa: What is it?
Shaw: It's hard to describe, but you just have a certain energy. A bit stubborn, but not so foolish as to refuse to turn back even after hitting a brick wall. When you're feeling down, just taking you out for a nice meal and a drink... You can instantly revive on the spot and start jumping around again (←■_■) So if I had your qualities, I'd probably have inexhaustible energy every day.
Kasa: Well, I suggest that Shaw stay by my side more often and learn more.
Shaw: No need for that. You have enough advantages already. I'll catch as many fish as I can.
Q: Which photo in your album is the one you'd never want to delete? ☆
Shaw: Every one. There must be a reason why it's in my photo album. As for the photos of you, it's more than just that I can't bear to delete them. I even made a backup ^(`▽´*)”
Q: What's the best gift you've ever received? ☆
Shaw: A gift made with heart is the best gift.
Kasa: Wow, wouldn't that mean every single gift I gave you...? In your heart, they are all the best?
Shaw: I knew you were going to say that. But that is indeed the case, so I will not deny it. Okay, start grinning like an idiot now. Here's your chance to be smug.
Q: What do you usually do when you miss someone? ☆
Shaw: This is too much. I won't tell you.
Q: What are the items you recently ordered in your shopping cart? ☆
Shaw: Didn't buy anything. I bought a board, a box of popsicles, and some snacks.
Kasa: A whole box? Why did you buy so many?
Shaw: Because someone isn't only frequent visitor our home, but she also have a craving for food all the time. If you can't find food, you'll keep muttering to yourself and then open a food delivery app. To avoid wasting time, I can only help you think things through in advance and make thorough preparations.
Q: What would your ideal perfect day look like? ☆☆☆
Shaw: Perfection is different every day.
Kasa: For example?
Shaw: For example, today I just want to lie comfortably in bed, listen to music, and take a nap.
Kasa: Pfft, what about tomorrow?
Shaw: Didn't we agree to go for a walk in the forest tomorrow? So as long as there's no torrential rain that forces us to turn back, it's a perfect day.
Kasa: What about the day after tomorrow?
Shaw: ....Why don't you just grab a pen and a calendar and ask questions while you write them down?
Kasa: That makes sense. Wait for me, I'll be right back!
Shaw: ....
Q: Do you think love is conditional? ☆☆
Shaw: In the past, it felt like there weren't many conditions. Now things are a bit uncertain.
Kasa: Why?
Shaw: Because some people are too stupid. They give their all, without expecting anything in return. But how can that be? Making it a habit will lead to serious consequences.
Kasa: Hehe, do you think you'd let me suffer a loss?
Shaw: ....To be honest, it's more interesting to see you laughing like an idiot than to make you suffer a loss. So feel free to pour your heart out, I'll take it all. Make it all worth it.

I have to admit that Shaw is still a bit of a mystery to me. I've only played a handful of his dates so far, and I'm still figuring out what kind of boyfriend material he would be. After this birthday event, though, I have to admit I'm starting to like him more and more!
We got a couple of kisses during the Q&A section, hihi, and after that "now" answer, I suddenly understand a lot better why he keeps pulling MC into his minty embrace every chance he gets. I also really like the way he shows that he cares: adjusting his pace while hiking, preparing snacks for her, paying attention to her emotions, and so on. And that final line — "So feel free to pour your heart out. I'll take it all. Make it all worth it." ♥ — was just lovely.
For some reason, I was a little surprised by how modest Shaw's answers were. He seems content with what he has and doesn't place many expectations on the future. I actually find that mindset quite relatable. We even listen to music in exactly the same way! And while I won't be volunteering to write his school assignments, I could definitely keep him company while working on my own thesis so we can suffer together, lol.
Date
Why is this man never at home around this time of year? Just like last year, the birthday date begins with MC sitting on a train, heading off to meet Shaw. He wants to take part in preparing his own birthday celebration, but the day ends up bringing him a few surprises anyway. His bandmates and even Professor Shen show up at the roller-skating rink to congratulate him, but Shaw seems far more interested in what MC has to say. The other band members keep teasing him for being clingy, lol, but Shaw always manages to fire back with a witty remark. In the end, he spends the night searching for gifts that MC has hidden around the area, and along the way he reveals that ever since MC entered his life, he's started thinking about the future differently — although not much further than tomorrow.
This carefree celebration date felt like taking a break after translating and editing so many hour-long main story drama episodes. Unfortunately, Shaw didn't show his softer side quite as openly as he did during the Q&A section, but you can easily read between the lines and see how much MC's presence means to him. He couldn't leave her alone even during the party preparations, and when everyone was offering birthday wishes, he seemed most interested in hearing what she had to say.
The celebration itself wasn't particularly extravagant, but it was entertaining to watch Shaw and his bandmates constantly tease each other. One of my favorite moments was seeing "Old Man" showing off his roller-skating skills to the younger crowd!
The ending scene was beautifully written. I loved the "path you led me along" treasure hunt that MC organized. It felt like such a thoughtful way to show that she genuinely cared about the memories and experiences Shaw had shared with her through the photos from his travels. And their conversation about the future — or rather, tomorrow — was wonderful too, especially when MC promised to keep appearing in his life again and again, every single day.
Birthday celebration
The only thing I want to point out is that Shaw wasn't kidding when he said earlier in the Q&A section that he prefers heartfelt gifts. He genuinely seemed to love that handmade scrapbook!
Other comments
- I really like this event's theme song. It's such a feel-good rock track!
- I have no idea why the decorations didn't appear when I played the date. I started it before his birthday, but even when I replayed it afterwards, the decorations were still missing. 😟 At least you can see them in the birthday celebration video.
- Did you notice that his shirt literally have text "Shaw" on it??!
