Where is Gavin's Mermaid event??!

I know, I know — I'm very late with my translations.. 😅 Unfortunately, I may end up skipping this event because I just haven't had much motivation to work on the editing lately. I'm sorry about that. I actually have all the translated texts waiting to be cleaned up, so if you don't mind the messy layout you can read them here. Fair warning, though: they're not exactly very reader-friendly in their current state.. However, I would recommend to watch this hikariin's video which includes translations of the daily dialogues and diary entries if you are interested to learn more about this event!

My Thoughts on the Event

To share briefly my thoughts I have to confess that this event just didn't click with me as much as the previous merman content did. That may also explain why I've struggled to finish this post lol. Since Gavin's event was released last in this solo series, it didn't feel like it brought many new surprises for me personally. The overall structure was very familiar by that point: similar music, the same minigame ect...

It's actually kind of funny because I absolutely loved Lucien's Mermaid event, yet this one left me feeling much less invested. Of course, that may be partly because I didn't get the card and therefore couldn't play the date itself. Without experiencing the full story, it's hard to judge the event as a whole fairly. Or maybe my expectations were simply unrealistically high after playing what is honestly one of my favorite dates in the entire game.

One thing I struggled with was Gavin's portrayal throughout the event. He felt rather distant, there wasn't much conversation between him and MC, and there were fewer warm/cute moments than I personally enjoy. 

By the final day, when Gavin threatened to make MC do extra training as punishment, I actually started wondering whether the story intentionally portrayed their dynamic more like Gavin interacting with his STF colleagues. That would also explain why MC addressed him formally as "Senior." If that was indeed the intention, it makes sense from a storytelling perspective. Still, I can't deny that I was hoping for something a little different. One of my favorite things about Gavin's stories is seeing his STF buddies teasing him, and I didn't quite get the same feeling here.

Despite my mixed feelings, there were definitely things I enjoyed. I thought it was really cool that MC was a pilot in this storyline (and I absolutely love her outfit, by the way!). Pairing her with Gavin as a "flying fish" was a fun concept, and their roles complemented each other nicely. I was also highly amused by Gavin using the wind to secretly peek at MC's diary entries. That was exactly the kind of playful Gavin moment I wanted more of!

Sorry again for the delay, I promise I'll do better and make sure that Gavin's Van Gogh event translations come in time!
