Lucien's Van Gogh Event Translations

Finally, it's Lucien's turn, and we're getting the Van Gogh solo set complete! As I did with the others, I'll share all the translations first, and now I can start preparing a post where I put all my thoughts about this event together.

Intro

Translation

In the afternoon, the curtains in the living room billowed gently in the breeze, and the slanting sunlight warmed the coffee table. I sat on the sofa, turning the pages of a book.

In preparation for this trip abroad to film a flower documentary, I went through all sorts of classic flower-themed picture books.

The desk was piled with botanicals from various countries, exhibition catalogs, and interview transcripts, and the sound of turning pages became the daily background noise.

Until that page of the picture book was blown open by the wind —

Deep purple irises stand against an earthy background, the brushstrokes loose, and light emanates soft rays from the depths of the petals.

Kasa: ..."Iris"?

I murmured the painting's name, a sudden thought stirring within me. Just then, I heard soft footsteps behind me.

When Lucien walked in, he was holding a freshly brewed cup of tea, the warm steam slightly dampening the edges of his glasses.

Lucien: It sounds like this girl has finally found the flower that makes her heart flutter.

I smiled and looked up from the picture book. He put down his tea and his gaze fell on the painting of irises on the table.

Lucien: It turns out to be Van Gogh's "Irises," which is indeed a very suitable painting to use as subject matter.

Kasa: Yes, with this one as the core, all the materials should be complete.

Kasa: Great! Looks like I won't have to rush to find materials while going to the airport!

Upon hearing this, Lucien blinked gently, then slowly reached out and brushed his hand across my drooping hair.

Lucien: So, Miss Producer, will your luggage be lighter then?

I blinked, not understanding why he would suddenly say that, and just nodded blankly.

Kasa: Yes, after all, I can carry far fewer picture books.

Lucien smiled slightly, put his hand on the edge of the table, and leaned down to look at me.

Lucien: Have you considered bringing another large piece of luggage?

Lucien: However, the baggage fee might be a bit expensive, and you'll need an adult ticket for the seat next to you.

Kasa: ...Um?!

My eyes lit up instantly, and my voice was filled with undisguised joy.

Kasa: You mean you want to come along? That's great!

Kasa: But... won't it be too rushed? Haven't you been working very late lately?

Lucien: The project has recently come to a temporary close, so I don't have much to do. Besides, as a consultant for the program, I naturally have to fulfill my obligations.

Lucien: Or are you planning to leave the program consultant behind and stay in Love Land City alone?

His tone was calm, but his eyes were smiling. My heart softened, and I raised my hand to gently grasp his outstretched one.

Kasa: No way, I'd love to take you everywhere I go!

Kasa: Then come with me to England, Mr. Program Advisor.

The air was filled with the aroma of hot tea, while the autumn wind was quietly approaching outside the window.

Lucien smiled and responded, then reached out and pulled me into his arms.

Lucien: Let's set off together, from here to where the flowers will bloom again.

Daily Dialogues

DAY 1

Lucien: The sunshade is installed. What do you think?

Kasa: I feel like the light on the terrace hasn't changed much, it's just become softer.

Lucien: Well, considering that the plants on our terrace have slightly different light requirements... After comparing experimental data from several papers, I chose this shade cloth with a light transmittance of around 65%. It can reduce about 60% of ultraviolet rays, but can still transmit more than 70% of visible light. In this way, the plants can get enough sunlight without their petals and leaves being damaged by the sun.

Kasa: So meticulous, as expected of Professor Lucien! Wait a minute, we spent the whole day in the greenhouse taking care of the plants yesterday. When did you start researching so much? Could it be that Professor Lucien secretly stayed up late again after I fell asleep last night? (´・ω・`)

Lucien: Of course not, I just made the most of my time before bed by reading more botany-related papers (* ̄︶ ̄) After all, during the day, a certain studious young lady was always holding a plant manual, frowning at the spots on the seedlings and tender leaves.

Kasa: Turns out you want to solve their problems quickly too, no wonder you work so hard!

Lucien: I might be more selfish than you think. I'm thinking, if I knew a little more… The next time you encounter a plant-related problem, you might not immediately think of a plant manual. Instead, you came to my side.

DAY 2

Lucien: You look a little tired, are you exhausted?

Kasa: No, it's just that my right eyelid has been twitching since I woke up this morning. There's an old saying, "A twitching left eye means good fortune, a twitching right eye means bad luck"... Could this be some kind of bad omen?

Lucien: From a scientific perspective, eyelid twitching is a very common physiological phenomenon. As long as you get enough rest, it should be relieved.

Kasa: Let's quickly finish watering these flowers and go back to sleep.... ∑(゜A゜ノ)ノ This water pipe is cracked!

Lucien: ◝◝◝ (* ̄︶ ̄)?◝◝◝

Kasa: You're all wet, let me dry you off.
(;´ω`;)/(; ̄︶ ̄;) Alas, could it be that the ominous sign from earlier has come true?

Lucien: I actually think that if there really are "signs," it might be a good omen. (* ̄︶ ̄ )つ(;´ ω`;) Look, the sun is shining brightly outside today, and the breeze is lovely. These unexpected little splashes of water actually feel quite refreshing. So this little accident might be a sign of something... We can lie together on the grass in the park and leisurely bask in the sun.

DAY 3

Kasa: Lucien, Lucien — A sudden gust of wind blew outside!

Lucien: ||◝(* ̄▽ ̄*)◜|| The window is closed. Are you alright?

Kasa: I'm fine~ You might not believe it, but I was originally inspecting the flower racks on the other side. But as I walked, for some reason, I suddenly had the urge to wander around here. The wind picked up as soon as I arrived, and just as the flowerpot was about to be blown over, I managed to catch it!

Lucien: I believe it, because I also encountered something good.

Kasa: What's up?

Lucien: Look (* ̄︶ ̄)つ✿

Kasa: Hmm...? Why are you holding a flower in your hand?

Lucien: Just now, as I was closing the window, an iris fell from the flowerpot in your hand and landed right in my palm.

Kasa: Hehe, it seems we've all experienced a twist of fate.

Lucien: Rather than calling it a coincidence of fate, I prefer to call it "Kasa's coincidence". It was you who held the flowerpot steady at this time and place, and it was you who called me here. So, it was you who delivered this beautiful coincidence into my hands.

☆☆☆

DAY 4

Lucien: Kasa, could you please help me affix these name tags to the flower pots on my oak planter stand?

Kasa: Here I come! Lucien, what do these name tags say?

Lucien: These are the Latin names of those irises, and the numbers following them indicate their order of arrangement on the trellis.

Kasa: Hmm…(0˘__˘ 0)

Lucien: Judging from your expression... is there something wrong with these designer brands?

Kasa: I'm thinking that writing it like this might be a bit difficult for the average person to distinguish; it might not make it clear what the differences are between these irises.

Lucien: Otherwise, consider their specific characteristics, such as the abundant stamens of *Iris germanica* and the preference for moist conditions and cold tolerance of *Iris sibirica*.

Kasa: This is better, but if I were to write it, it might be a little different, like this: Plant Manager: Lucien. Characteristics: Super smart, always smiling, and often secretly stays up late, which worries me.╭(╯^╰)╮

Lucien: I understand, this does make brand names stand out. I wonder if this producer could help me modify them?

Kasa: Of course, no problem! Let's get started now!

Lucien: Okay, then I'd like to complete the name tag you gave me first (*^-^)

Kasa: Is there anything else to add?

Lucien: Two more important characteristics of Lucien: First, he is special because of Kasa's love. Secondly, he also loves Kasa very much (* ̄︶ ̄ *).

☆☆☆

DAY 5

Kasa: Turns out there's a self-service flower shop in this alley!

Lucien: Yes, these flowers are blooming very vigorously; they must have been carefully cultivated. How about we choose a bouquet you like to take home?

Kasa: Okay...wait, what are these cards for?

Lucien: Judging from the sign, these are greeting cards. However, these items are not for sale; you can only take them away by writing a poem on the message board.

Kasa: That sounds so romantic! (*^▽^*) However, it seems a bit difficult to come up with a poem to write right away (>___<)

Lucien: /-v-ゞ...
「Butterflies linger where irises breathe, as my gaze lingers where your smile blooms.」

Kasa: Professor Lucien can write poetry so quickly! Σ(; ºAº)

Lucien: It's probably because I saw that one of the greeting cards I received was shaped like a beautiful butterfly. When I looked up, I saw you holding flowers and smiling at me. These beautiful things always inspire us.

☆☆☆

DAY 6

Lucien: Professor...it's been a long time...You look very healthy, that's wonderful...

Kasa: Lucien, have we received any guests?

Lucien: Yes, this is "professor" (* ̄︶ ̄*)つ

Kasa: The "professor" is... a kitten?

Lucien: Hmm, it seems to be a cat that lives nearby. It used to come and patrol the greenhouse often when I visited. I never imagined that after all these years, it would still be here.

Kasa: Oh, I see. It seems to be very affectionate towards you. Does it remember you?

Lucien: I can't be sure either, after all, I haven't been here for very long and my interactions with it are limited.

Kasa: Hmm, so when you ran into problems taking care of the plants, was the "professor" always there?

Lucien: …I have indeed bumped into it a few times. Come to think of it, it seems to have been following me around quite often since then.

Kasa: It might actually remember you! After all, I've heard that teachers always have a particularly strong impression of bad students.

Lucien: /-v-ゞ.

Kasa: Why are you so quiet? Are you thinking about how to improve your image in the "professor's" eyes?

Lucien: No, I think my performance these past few days should be enough to put the "professor's mind at ease." I was just thinking that in many ways, you are also my teacher. If the theory that "teachers always have a strong impression of bad students" holds true... How can I be a little "bad" so that Teacher Kasa will remember me forever?

☆☆☆

DAY 7

Kasa: Lucien, look at the flower wreath I made — (°__°〃)

Lucien: Zzzz(´-ヘ-`*)…………

Kasa: ...Asleep? Looks like you've been too tired from tidying up the greenhouse these past few days...

Lucien: Zzz (´-ヘ-`*) The ethanol concentration will be reduced by another 5%......Zzzz (´-ヘ-`*) The saturation of the extract... needs to be measured three more times...

Kasa: Pfft, how can someone be conducting experiments in their dreams?!

Lucien: Zzzz(´-ヘ-`*) Trying one last time

Kasa: It's rare for him to sleep so soundly, I'll let him sleep a little longer~

Lucien: Zzzz(´-v-`*) This scent...she should like it if I give it to her...

Kasa: /(//・/ω/・//)/ Hehe, then consider this flower wreath a small return gift for the gift from my dream~

Lucien: Zzzz(´-v-`*) Kasa...
